1. What are visa support documents?
In the case of a Tourist Visa, visa support documents consist of a Tourist Confirmation confirming that you have booked accommodation for your stay in Russia. Faxed or scanned copy is acceptable. Other types of visa require an Invitation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Federal Migration Service, and the original copy is required.

2. I have booked a hotel in Russia. Do I still need an invitation?
Hotel booking confirmation is not accepted for visa application. Hotel booking confirmation and visa support documents (invitation) are not the same thing. The visa support document (i.e. Confirmation of reception of foreign tourist, click here to see sample) is issued by hotels or other tour companies authorized by “Russiatourism” specifically for the purpose of visa application.

3. Do I need to enter and leave Russia only on the dates specified in the application ?

No, the visa is issued for the period covered by the visa support document. You may enter and leave Russia on any dates within that period.

4. I am visiting Russia on an international cruise. Do I need a visa?
The regulations for cruise passengers are very specific.
A cruise passenger can get off the ship together with other tourists, in this case no visa is required. The passport control officers just check the list of passengers produced by the cruise company. If you do not want to stay with the group and prefer to make a separate city tour, a visa will be required. To obtain a Russian visa, you need first to be provided with visa support (official letter of invitation).

5. What are the processing times?

Processing times are 5 working days or next working day depending upon the visa category applied for and the application itself. Kindly ensure all your documents are complete at the time of submission of your application in order to avoid any further delay or inconvenience. In some cases processing time can be longer.
